This is in a central part of the Albera range, bordering on the north with the French county of Vallespir. |
|
|
Within its municipal limits there are several megalithic monuments (The dolmens of Barrac, Arrenyagats, Mas Girarols, Puig Balaguer and les Morelles, and the sepulcre on the path the Font del Roure). |

|
The village is dominated by the church of Sant Jaume with a high square bell tower. It also features Espolla castle, which during its long history has been used as dwelling, storehouse and stable. |

As a wine-producing village it has its local cooperative, the Celler Cooperatiu d'Espolla, which opened its doors in Novembre 1931. |
